Uninstalling Greenplum for Kubernetes
This topic describes how to uninstall Pivotal Greenplum for Kubernetes. This process involves deleting deployed Greenplum for Kubernetes clusters, removing container images into your container registry, and using the helm
package manager to delete the Greenplum Operator resource from Kubernetes.
Prerequisites
Before you uninstall Greenplum for Kubernetes, follow the instructions in Deleting a Greenplum Cluster to delete any deployed Greenplum clusters. After you finish the uninstallation process, you will not be able to use the Greenplum Operator to manage existing Greenplum cluster deployments.
Procedures
Follow these steps to uninstall Greenplum for Kubernetes:
Use the
helm delete
command to delete thegreenplum-operator
release:$ helm delete greenplum-operator
Use
kubectl
to remove additional resources:Run the following command to list all the resources that are created by greenplum-operator
$ kubectl api-resources --verbs=get -o name | grep -v componentstatus | xargs -n 1 kubectl get --show-kind --ignore-not-found -l app=greenplum-operator -o name
endpoints/greenplum-validating-webhook service/greenplum-validating-webhook validatingwebhookconfiguration.admissionregistration.k8s.io/greenplum-validating-webhook customresourcedefinition.apiextensions.k8s.io/greenplumclusters.greenplum.pivotal.io
Run the following to manually delete resources created by greenplum-operator
$ kubectl delete \ endpoints/greenplum-validating-webhook \ service/greenplum-validating-webhook \ validatingwebhookconfiguration.admissionregistration.k8s.io/greenplum-validating-webhook
Note: If there are any existing Greenplum instances, deleting the CRD will also delete the clusters.
To delete the local Greenplum for Kubernetes Docker images, first determine the image IDs. For example:
$ docker images "greenplum-*"
REPOSITORY TAG IMAGE ID CREATED SIZE greenplum-operator v0.4.1.dev.9.g60effb8 d6ed470f5096 3 days ago 216MB greenplum-for-kubernetes v0.4.1.dev.9.g60effb8 6e2eae3efc7b 3 days ago 785MB
After determining the image IDs to remove, use
docker rmi
to delete them:$ docker rmi d6ed470f5096

If you pushed the Greenplum for Kubernetes Docker images to a remote container registry, use the registry-specific instructions to delete those images. For example, if you pushed the images to Google Cloud Registry, follow the instructions in Deleting Images in the Google Cloud documentation to remove them.
